Element 7 is a Seattle based live video production company and we needed the best option for effective communication on location at large venues. We looked at many different systems but we kept coming back to realiabilty, scaleability and longevity. If we were going to invest in an intercom sytem it needed to work well and last. Clear-Com Edge was the obvious choice for our needs.
The Clear-Com FreeSpeak Edge is a 5ghz wireless intercom system that allows users to communicate effectively over long distances and with large teams. This revolutionary system is designed to provide superior audio quality, expanded coverage, and easy scalability, making it a popular choice for a wide range of applications, including live events, theater, and broadcast.
At Element 7 we use the Clear-Com Edge system for large venue live concerts, MMA sporting events, corporate events and school graduation ceremonies. We provide live video production to the Seattle market and effective communication is paramount. We have enjoyed the flexibility to have up to 8 independent, pre programmed channels per beltpack. This way a Producer can be on all the main channels but also have key people on individual channels for direct communication. This frees up the main channels and keeps communication clear and private.
For concerts we purchased the David Clark H8532 Aviation headsets for complete sound isolation and microphones that are well suited for loud environments. These headsets work well here but in a corporate environment we prefer the single ear Clear-Com headsets for comfort and audio quality. One of the key features of the FreeSpeak Edge system is its superior audio quality. The system utilizes digital audio processing and a wideband audio frequency response to provide clear, natural sound that is free from noise and distortion. Additionally, the system uses advanced error correction algorithms to ensure that audio transmissions are not affected by any interference or signal loss.
Initially we were concerned that using 5ghz would be a problem because of the wide adoption of 5Ghz wifi. The channel scanning feature on the beltpacks allows us to scan an area and choose an available channel for both primary secondary and backup transmission. Between all these channels we are easily able to work within a busy 5Ghz environment while at the same time having complete assurance of signal integrity. We work in some of the largest venues in Seattle including Climate Pledge Arena, T-mobile Park and many of the larger casinos. So far we have had great success with this system. It’s easy to expand as well. We just need to add additional transceivers to the network to get around corners, into new rooms and further into open areas. The system is designed to provide coverage for up to 1 million square feet, making it ideal for large venues such as stadiums and arenas. Additionally, the system uses multiple frequency channels to ensure that there is no interference between different users, even in crowded environments.
The FreeSpeak Edge system is also highly scalable, making it easy to add or remove users as needed. The system supports up to 100 wireless beltpacks, allowing users to communicate freely and without any physical constraints. Additionally, the system is compatible with a wide range of accessories, including headsets, earpieces, and speaker stations, allowing users to customize their communication setup to suit their specific needs.
In addition to its superior audio quality, expanded coverage, and scalability, the FreeSpeak Edge system is also designed for easy setup and operation. The system comes with a user-friendly interface that allows users to easily configure and manage their wireless communications. Additionally, the system is compatible with a wide range of third-party control systems, making it easy to integrate with other equipment and systems.
Our favorite part of the system is adding our client names to the beltpacks. Our comms manager can enable or disable latch, combine channels, adjust sidetone, monitor battery levels and signal and add people to custom channels on the fly. The user interface is simple and easy to learn, the setup is quick and expanding the system is as simple as running some cat 6 cable and plugging in the transceiver. Our clients love to see a well run well coordinated live production and with this wireless comms system we are able to provide an event that is executed perfectly. We use these systems in house and we also make the com’s available for rent. With a quick tutorial we can show a rental client how to connect and utilize the system easily.
Overall, the Clear-Com FreeSpeak Edge is a wireless intercom system that provides superior audio quality, expanded coverage, and easy scalability, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications, including live events, theater, and broadcast. With its advanced features, easy operation, and compatibility with a wide range of accessories and third-party control systems, the FreeSpeak Edge system is sure to provide users with the flexibility, reliability, and performance they need to communicate effectively in any situation.
